The program is mainly funded by a small portion of the licensing fees that the dental professional submits to the NC State Board of Dental Examiners. Additional funds come from monitoring fees and donors including the NC Dental Society. The NCCDP is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
If the dental professional who is licensed in North Carolina is not already known to the NC State Board of Dental Examiners Board he/she will remain anonymous so long as they voluntarily submit to a professional evaluation and the NCCDP can establish that they are safe to practice. The NCCDP will monitor the dental professional either through a Participation Agreement or a Service Agreement.
NCCDP operates under a Memorandum of Understanding with the NC State Board of Dental Examiners with support of the NC Dental Society.
Those individuals who are self-referred or referred by staff, colleagues or family will remain anonymous.
If the NC State Board of Dental Examiners refers a dental professional it is with the understanding that relevant information regarding their ability to practice will be communicated as appropriate.
Anonymity will be broken if the participant:
(1) Constitutes an imminent danger to the public or himself;
(2) Refuses to cooperate with the program, refuses to submit to treatment, or is still impaired after
treatment;
(3) Or if it reasonably appears there are other grounds for disciplinary action. This decision is made in
conjunction with the NCCDP’s Compliance Committee.
Caduceus groups are 12-Step fellowship meetings specifically for medical professionals. Information about meeting locations will be provided if you contact the NCCDP office.
